Professor Seo Donghye鈥檚 Research Team Selected for the Outstanding Early-Career Research Program

- Secures approximately KRW 250 million in research funding
- Research on the 鈥淓volution of Plant Hormones鈥濃 Seeks crops resilient to heatwaves and drought

The research team led by Professor Seo Donghye of the Department of Molecular Biotechnology has been selected for the 鈥2026 Basic Research Program鈥檚 Outstanding Early-Career Research (Type A)鈥 hosted by the National Research Foundation of Korea.

With this selection, Professor Seo鈥檚 team will receive approximately KRW 250 million in research funding for three years, from March this year through February 2029.

The Outstanding Early-Career Research program is a national R&D project designed to support young researchers鈥 creative research and strengthen their research capabilities.

By studying the evolutionary process of the regulatory mechanism of the plant hormone ethylene, the team aims to lay the foundation for developing crops that respond efficiently to environmental stress.

In particular, this research is significant in helping overcome issues such as reduced productivity and the spread of pests and diseases caused by the global climate crisis and changes in agricultural environments, while also examining how crops can acquire resistance to complex stresses such as drought, salinity, and high temperatures, thereby helping to safeguard future agriculture and food security.

Professor Seo Dong-hye said, 鈥淚 am very proud to have been selected for this national research project, and all of this was possible thanks to the university鈥檚 support and the help of my colleagues. I will repay that support through active research activities in line with the value of a 鈥榬esearch-oriented university.鈥欌
