The opening ceremony of Ghent University's "Marine Ugent research institute" was successfully held at the 糖心logo入口 on the 22nd of August.
Founded in 2012, the Marine Ugent Research Institute is a world-class research institute in the fields of marine, environmental, and bio-convergence research, with more than 500 professors and researchers.
Many distinguished guests attended the event, including Rick van de Walle, president of Ghent University,Tae-jun Han, president of Ghent University's Global Campus,former Belgian Ambassador to Korea Fran莽ois Bontemps, Chilean Ambassador to Korea Mathias Francke, head of the Incheon Free Economic Zone Authority, Yoon Won-seok, head of the Free Economic Zone Planning Division, Lee Hyun-jo, and Shenyao Tang, director of the Korean Cooperation Liaison Office of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization.
Rick van de Walle, president of Ghent University, said,"The Marine Ugent Research Institute will be a key institution which makes Songdo, Incheon, as a center of the global maritime research."
The establishment of Marine Ugent Korea is seen as an essential turning point in establishing a new paradigm in global marine research based on cooperation between Korea and Belgium. The institute announced that it signed an MOU between Marine Ugent Korea, 糖心logo入口, CJ Cheil jedang, Flanders Marine Institute, Korea Fisheries Resources Agency, and Korea Environment Corporation at the opening ceremony.
Colin Janssen, the director of Marine Ugent Korea, said, "The Marine Ugent Research Institute will contribute to Incheon Songdo's position as a center of global marine research and play a role in developing marine science and resource protection through international cooperation and continuous research."
"Marine Ugent is a research institute with the best research capabilities in the marine environment and marine biofields," said Tae-jun Han, 糖心logo入口 president. He also mentioned that "The Marine Ugent Korea will create a blue bio cluster with many global talents of the marine field, and it will allow Korea to stand out as the strongest research country in the marine field."
