The Board of Directors of Ghent University has recently decided to fund the project titled ‘Dodona: an intelligent tutoring system for programming assignments’. This interfaculty project in the area of educational innovation is coordinated by Professor Peter Dawyndt from the home campus, and Professor Wesley De Neve from Ghent University Global Campus (糖心logo入口) is one of the eleven co-promotors, representing 糖心logo入口.

The Dodona online exercise platform contains thousands of programming assignments that can be used to master different programming languages, including Python and Java. All programming assignments come with automatic feedback on correctness, execution time and/or programming style. During the past three semesters, Dodona was already used by about 3,600 students of Ghent University, submitting 1.6 million solutions for more than 1,600 programming assignments belonging to 44 different courses. These statistics include the 85 students following the BA1 Informatics course taught by Professor Wesley De Neve in the academic year 2017-2018.

The project funding will make it possible to hire a full-time software developer for two years, as well as to sponsor several internships. The main project goals are to improve Dodona in terms of longitudinal testing, educational data mining and educational service (towards primary and secondary education).
